Prison is like the movie, "Goundhog Day". Everyday you wake up and it's the exact same thing. The schedule never changes. You are told when to wake, when to sleep, when to eat, where to go and when you can go. You get a real lesson in patience. "Hurry up and wait...". You forget what day it is, what week it is. Your family goes on with their lives and you feel like you've died and you're watching them (you hear about what they're doing, you don't really see anything) and you are not there. It's constant boredom, you have to figure out a routine that'll get you through the day... the week... the month... the year(s).

Parole is an extension of the above. The problem is, you are "free" to a certain extent but there are tight rules and regulations that must be followed. Many parolees forget they are still the property of the state and slip up. Therefore, a high percentage of released inmates are violated and sent back. Parole Officers are in the business of looking for a reason to violate you. This is a time where you have to really be careful of everything you do because the man is watching every move, just waiting for  you to fuck up.
