Will the Jail Provide Bus Fare or a Ride on Release Day?

My boyfriend was transferred from the Louisville Metro jail to Breckinridge County. He's release date is 9-1-16. How does the release work will they just let him out without him having a ride and be stranded or will they give him bus fare

Most county jails do not provide transportation or travel funds for short-sentence inmates being released. The standard procedure is that the inmate gets their personal property back and walks out the door. Whether anyone is there to pick them up is up to the family.

That said, every county does things a little differently, and some jails have modest provisions for releasing inmates, a bus ticket, a small amount of gate money, or access to a phone to arrange a ride. The only way to know exactly what Breckinridge County does is to call the facility directly and ask what the release procedure looks like for someone in his situation.

The safest plan is to arrange to pick him up yourself or have someone there on release day rather than assuming the jail will take care of it. If he is being released at an early hour, confirm the exact release time with the facility in advance since release processing can happen anywhere from midnight to midday depending on the jail.
