The Livingston County NY Jail is a detention center located at 4 Court St Geneseo, NY which is operated locally by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Livingston County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Geneseo Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Corrections Division is responsible for the staffing and operation of the Livingston County Jail and Courthouse Security. The staff consists of Chief Deputy Jason Yasso filling the Superintendent role, Captain Jeff Hammond the deputy superintendent, Administrative Sergeant Aaron Galvin, Court Security Sergeant Jeremy Slocum, six corporals who supervise shifts, 47 full-time correction officers, 33 part-time correction officers, four full-time and six part-time civilian employees.
The Livingston County Jail staffs a Registered Nurse seven days a week. Any inmate wishing to see the nurse for medical reasons can do so on request. The nurse will handle all routine medical problems and will consult the jail physician at his/her discretion.
Dental care is limited to serious dental problems. Action taken will be at the discretion of the jail dentist. If an inmate needs dental attention, the staff should be contacted.
The Livingston County Department of Mental Health will provide psychiatric and psychological counseling. There is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist on staff at the jail five days per week. Inmates who need these services should contact the area staff officer.
Religious services will be held as follows:
An inmate's own minister may visit the inmate Thursdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. If an inmate desires to see someone representing a specific recognized religion, a request should be made to the area staff officer and an attempt will be made to contact someone representing that religion.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings are held each Tuesday evening from. The Livingston County Council on Alcoholism will be available for counseling and will visit the jail two days a week. Requests should be made to the area staff officer.
Youths 21 years and younger without a high school diploma are required to attend educational classes during the regular school year. A staff officer will contact all eligible inmates.
A General Equivalency Diploma (GED) program will be held during the regular school year for inmates 21 years old and older. Inmates wishing to take part in this program should advise the area staff officer.

POLICY - It shall be the policy of the Livingston County Jail to permit inmates to have visits with family members, friends, and their attorney(s) under conditions consistent with the safety, security and good order of the facility.
DEFINITIONS - Visitation Period - shall be any time an inmate is brought out of his housing area to the visitation room for the purpose of visiting with family members, or friends. If the duration of the visit is less than one (1) hour due to it being terminated by the inmate or visitor, it shall still count as one (1) full visitation period.
PROCEDURE - Inmates committed to this facility are entitled to two (2) one hour visits per week with family members or friends. Inmates may receive a visit from their attorney anytime reasonable and convenient for staff, providing such visitors can produce proper identification. Inmates may receive a pastoral visit on Thursday between the hours of 1400 and 1600 without an appointment. Procedures for regular visitation are as follows:
1. An initial visit shall be allowed at the shift supervisor’s discretion anytime within the first 24 hours of incarceration.
2. All attempts will be made to follow the below visit schedule.
3. Visits will be scheduled in an appointment type fashion to create good order within the facility as well as keep the public from waiting long durations. However walk in visits will not be denied during normal visit periods.

4. Visitation appointments can be made by emailing jailvisit@co.livingston.ny.us when emailing for an appointment you must include your full name (with middle initial), date of birth, current address and phone number. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours confirming your visit. If you do not have email you may call (585) 243-7180 and follow the visitation prompts.
5. Only two (2) visitors may visit an inmate at one time.
6. At 0630 hours on visitation days, a roster will be placed in each block to notify the inmates of that day's visitation schedule.
7. Time allowed per visit is one (1) hour and there will be only one (1) visit allowed per visitation day. If the visit is less than one hour another visit will not be allowed.
Only two (2) visitors may visit an inmate at a time.
8. Each inmate is not required but requested to fill out a visitation list with names of prospective visitors. Inmates can add or delete names at their discretion. A
prospective visitor can be added to the list when making a visiting appointment. Staff is instructed to contact the inmate and inquire if they would like the name added to their list. The visitor list will be used to ensure the visit is endorsed by both the inmate and the visitor. This list will assume the visitor listed on it is “preapproved” by the inmate. Any potential visitor who is not on an inmate’s visitation list must be approved by the inmate for such visit. The proposed visitor must report for the visit prior to facility scheduled visitation time to allow for inmate approval.
** NOTE: attorneys and ministers need not be on the inmate’s visitation list and do not need an appointment (open pastoral visits Thursdays 2 pm to 4 pm ).
9. The jail superintendent may refuse entry to any person. If this should occur the jail superintendent shall document the reasons for the restriction.
10. All prospective visitors will store their personal belongings in the lockers provided. No coats, hats or purses shall be allowed into the visitation room. All of
these items will be placed in the secure locker provided. All visitors will be properly attired, (ie. No low cut tops, exposed midriff, short shorts, or short skirts) will be permitted. No baby bottles, cups or beverages are allowed. No phones or smartwatches are allowed (Smartwatch is a watch that is capable of linking to a phone).
11. Inmates and visitors must conduct themselves in a quiet and orderly manner at all times. Profanity, loud or boisterous talking will not be permitted at any time. Small children must be kept under control.
12. No visitor will be allowed to visit if, in the opinion of the staff, the visitor is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
13. All visitors must walk through a metal detector and may be subject to search as mandated in section 7008.7 of the New York State Commission of Correction Minimum Standards.
14. Inmates must be dressed in issued jail uniforms. There will be no sweats, shorts, or tee shirts worn in visitation.
15. Inmates may shake hands with, kiss and/or embrace visitors at the beginning and at the termination of the visit. At no time will fondling or prolonged embraces be allowed.
16. Inmates and visitors will remain seated at all times, with their hands on the tables at all times. (At no time will holding hands be permitted.)
17. A visit shall be terminated immediately and without question upon any violation of the visitation rules and regulations by either the inmate or the visitor.
18. Smoking will not be permitted in the visitation room or on county property.
19. Inmates shall not enter the visitation room with combs, pens, pencils, notes, letters, candy or any item(s) in their pockets.
20. Every inmate shall be strip searched after every visit.
21. All visitors will give their name, address, and the name of inmate they are visiting. They will also be required to produce identification.
22. Inmate to Inmate visits will NOT be permitted.
** NOTE: Any person 17 years of age or younger shall be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. An exception can be granted by the shift supervisor for an inmate’s children that are under 18 years old with written permission from a parent or legal guardian.
