The Federal Correctional Institution, Pekin (FCI Pekin), situated in Illinois, operates as a medium-security federal prison for male and female inmates, complemented by an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. Managed by the BOP, a division of the US DOJ, this facility occupies a strategic location approximately 10 miles south of Peoria, IL, within the city limits of Pekin.

In terms of housing, inmates at FCI Pekin are accommodated in various configurations, including two, three, eight, and ten-person cells across four housing units. Additionally, inmates at the camp reside in dormitories featuring two-person cubicles. At present, FCI Pekin houses a total of 1,257 inmates, with 1,051 inmates at the FCI and 206 inmates at the satellite camp.

Women in prison are often the primary or sole caregivers of children before incarceration. For offenders who will give birth during their incarceration, there are two programs offered to assist these mothers before, during, and after childbirth; these include Mothers and Infants Together (MINT) and the Residential Parenting Program (RPP). The Program Statement, Female Offender Manual, is the agency's primary policy addressing the management of incarcerated women. The agency also issued an Operations Memorandum requiring all female sites to provide five types of feminine hygiene products to inmates free of charge.

Health services at FCI Pekin encompass medical and dental sick call, emergency care, medication provision, eyeglasses and contact lenses, physical examinations, and routine dental care. Inmates receive treatment from assigned Mid-Level Practitioners, and they must submit a written sick call request to be evaluated by the Health Services staff.

Psychology Services offer professional services, including evaluation, counseling, group programs, crisis assistance, drug treatment, and self-help programs. New arrivals undergo interviews and are briefed on available psychological programs, with common treatment groups focusing on anger management, criminal thinking, and Smart Recovery.

FCI Pekin houses a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) and offers other drug-related programs such as the Drug Education Program, Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

Education services encompass GED and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs, along with an Adult Continuing Education (ACE) program facilitated by fellow inmates. Incentives are provided for completing various courses, and high school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

The facility offers advanced occupational education in Certified Production Technician and Computer Applications, as well as apprenticeships in Institutional Cook, Maintenance Electrician, Quality Control Technician, and Sheet Metal Worker.

FCI Pekin maintains a leisure and law library with a wide selection of reading materials, including fiction, nonfiction, newspapers, and magazines. Inmates have access to electric typewriters, a copy machine, and the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library.

Inmates are permitted to shop once a week at the commissary, with a spending limit of $360.00 per month.

Recreation services include a range of scheduled activities such as sports, athletics, arts, and crafts, music, and entertainment. Various facilities like basketball, handball, and volleyball courts, as well as softball and soccer/flag football fields, are available for recreational purposes. Additionally, inmates can access billiard tables, bumper pool tables, table tennis, and weight training equipment.

Among the notable inmates housed at FCI Pekin are former Chicago Police officer Joseph Miedzianowski, serving a life sentence for conspiracy and racketeering; Iowa machinist John Tomkins, serving a 37-year sentence for mailing threatening letters and two pipe bombs; and Shon Hopwood, released in 2009 after completing an 11-year sentence for bank robbery.
