The South Florida Reception Center (SFRC) South Unit is an integral part of the state prison system, situated adjacent to the much larger in size SFRC main unit for men in Unincorporated Miami-Dade, Florida, within Miami-Dade County. Operated by the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC), SFRC-South is designed to accommodate a mix of security levels, including minimum, medium, and close custody, catering to adult male offenders.

Established in 1989, SFRC-South has a maximum capacity of 889 prisoners and operates under the parent institution, the South Florida Reception Center. The facility is committed to providing various programs and services aimed at rehabilitation, personal development, and successful reintegration into society for its inmate population.

Academic Programs offered at SFRC-South include General Education Development (GED) courses, providing inmates with the opportunity to obtain their high school equivalency diploma. Substance Abuse Programs, such as Addiction Education, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Celebrate Recovery, aim to address addiction issues and support inmates in their recovery journey.

Chaplaincy Services play a crucial role in providing spiritual guidance and support to inmates, offering programs like the Chapel Library Program, Father's Purpose, Religious Education, Spanish Services, and Worship Services to meet the diverse spiritual needs of the population.

Institutional Betterment Programs focus on promoting personal growth and development among inmates, with initiatives like Anger Management, Certified Logistic Associate and Tech (CLA/CLT) training, Compass 100 transition program, Employment Skills training, Law Library Program, Library Program, Living Skills workshops, Mentor Led Courses, OSHA Certification, Parenting Skills classes, Re-Entry Seminar, Stress and Anger Management, Thinking for a Change, Victim Impact, and Wellness Education.

Through these comprehensive programs and services, SFRC-South aims to facilitate positive behavioral change, equip inmates with essential life skills, and prepare them for successful reentry into society upon their release.

SFRC-South maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation Information

FDC Visitation Information

Regular visiting is held on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (8:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time). Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. (7:15 a.m. CST) on both days. Visitors will not be processed after 2:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. CST) unless authorized by the duty warden. Visitors will be allowed to park in designated spaces no earlier than 7:30 a.m. EST and 6:30 a.m. CST on visiting days.
Regular visiting is permitted on the following holidays:
• New Year's Day
• Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (third Monday in January)
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Veteran's Day (November 11th)
• Thanksgiving Day
• Friday after Thanksgiving; and
• Christmas Day
If any of the holidays listed above falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday. If any of these holidays fall on Sunday, then the following Monday will be observed as the holiday
