Fulton County GA Jail is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.

All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for County - medium facility.

The Fulton County GA Jail is a detention center located at 901 Rice St NW Atlanta, GA which is operated locally by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Fulton County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Atlanta Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Fulton County Jail Inmate Mail Procedures

Inmates may only receive pre-stamped or metered postcards from the United States Post Office. This change is being implemented to ensure the safety and security of the jail facilities, inmates and staff.

Acceptable Postcards - NO LETTERS WILL BE ACCEPTED

  • Stamps are not allowed, postcards must be metered or have a pre-printed stamp.
  • Minimum size requirements are 3.5 inches by 4.25 inches.
  • Maximum allowable postcard size is 4.25 inches by 6 inches.
  • Should be written in BLUE or BLACK INK ONLY.
  • Postcards must be white in color and are available at any United States Post Office.

Unacceptable Postcards

  • No defaced or altered postcards.
  • No plastic or wrappings on the postcard.
  • No postcards marked with paint, crayons or marker.
  • No postcards with labels or stickers.
  • No postcards with watermarks or stains.
  • No postcards with any biohazards, including perfumes or lipstick.
  • No postcards depicting nudity, weapons or gang references.
  • Postcards should not have affixed stamps.

Privileged/Legal Mail

  • Legal mail will be accepted and opened in the presence of the inmate.

Money Orders - ONLY POSTAL MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED

Send a Money Order to the jail using these procedures:

  • U.S. Postal money orders are accepted ONLY.
  • The envelope must be clearly marked “INMATE ACCOUNTING.”
  • No additional correspondence will be accepted with incoming inmate funds.
  • If additional contents are located in the envelope, the entire package will be returned to sender.

Photographs - NO POLAROID PICTURES!

  • Photographs must be 4" x 6” or smaller, larger photos will not be accepted. Only four (4) pictures will be accepted per envelope; with a maximum of eight (8) pictures in a thirty (30) day period.
  • The envelope must be clearly marked “PICTURES”.
  • The inmate’s name and SO number must be written on the back of each photograph. Nothing else is to be written on the photographs.
  • Photographs must be unaltered and may not contain any adhesives, such as stickers or labels.
  • Photographs must not depict sexual activity, visibly expose the breast, pubic area or buttocks; contain gang signs or codes or promote or show illegal activity.
  • Envelopes containing additional inmate correspondence will be returned to sender.

The following items listed below are NOT allowed:

  • See-through garments or clothing that show body parts;
  • Tight fitting clothing such as spandex, leggings, yoga pants, etc.;
  • Clothing with holes or rips whether manmade or designer;
  • Shorts that are above the knee;
  • Miniskirts, short dresses, or sagging pants;
  • Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, or visible white undergarment T-shirts;
  • Head coverings such as scarves, bandanas, hats, ball caps, etc.;
    Sleepwear such as pajama pants, gowns, house shoes, etc.;
  • Sunglasses, shades;
  • No handbags or purses;
  • Clothing or garments with illegal, offensive, or obscene graphics;
  • Shoes that are determined to be slip hazardous such as flip flops, shoes without a back strap, heels and toes exposed, etc.;
  • Outerwear such as jackets, sweaters, coats, hoodies, etc. (these items must be removed before entering the Fulton County Jail); and
  • Undergarments are required but should not be seen while conducting business at the Fulton County Jail.

Visitors video conferencing system that will provide a central area where visitors can see inmates on a video screen. Video telephones will be used as part of this service. The inmate housing areas will have similar units allowing them to interface with visitors. Visitation information will not be provided over the telephone or by email. The inmate must inform all visitors of the date and time scheduled for visitation. You must present a valid picture ID to visit. A valid ID is a state-approved driver's license, passport, or state-issued identification card. arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit. Fulton County Jail inmates are required to list persons they wish to see. Visitors will need to register on the Sheriff's Office website in advance. Individuals who do not have internet access will be allowed to register at the visitation center.

This will allow jail staff to screen potential visitors to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations established by the Fulton County Jail. Once a citizen has registered, he or she will be able to choose a date & time for the visit. The visitor should arrive at the jail at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time with proper identification.
• All visitors should register on line by clicking on this link, VIDEO VISITATION to reserve an appointment for inmate visitation. Bring the reservation number to the jail's visitation center on the appointment day. Visitors who are more than 10 minutes late or have not scheduled an appointment will not be able to visit.
• Visits can be scheduled up to 7 days in advance but no less than 24 hours prior to your visit. Visits are 25 minutes.
• Visiting hours are 9:00 am until 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm until 9:00pm.
• Visitors may leave money for inmates at the Jail Commissary 24 hours a day by using the kiosks machines.
