The George Hill Correctional is a detention center located at 500 Cheyney Rd Thornton, PA which is operated locally by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Delaware County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Thornton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Hill Correctional Facility, situated on approximately 140 acres, is a Delaware County-owned facility and it serves as a jail and prison responsible for housing pre-trial detainees and individuals serving county or state sentences of two years less one day or five years less one day, respectively. The facility also offers Work Release Programs for its inmate population.

The vision of the GHCF is to enhance public safety in Delaware County by providing comprehensive care, custody, and control of incarcerated individuals. This entails promoting correctional practices that exceed standards to ensure the safety of the community, staff, and those under its care. The facility is committed to providing education and training opportunities for staff to enhance their expertise and improve service delivery. Visitation Information

The George W Hill Correctional Facility offers in-person visitation Monday through Friday, 8:45 am -10:00 pm based on housing assignments. Please note there are several steps required prior to in-person visit:

  • All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and valid updated vehicle insurance. We do not allow Uber, Lyft, etc. to come onto the property.
  • The population is authorized 1 visit per week (either 1 video visit OR 1 in-person visit)
  • An Incarcerated person is authorized up to 3 visitors per visit. A visitor under the age of 18 is not required to register for a visit. Minors will be counted as 1 of the 3 visitors and must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The Incarcerated person is required to submit a visitor's list to their respective Case Manager.
  • If approved, the incarcerated person will need to inform the visitor to begin the online registration process
