Located at 1318 KS-264 in Larned, KS, LSCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. LSCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The LSCF was established in 1991 to address the long-term needs of mentally ill residents, following a federal court order. Originally known as the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, it officially became the Larned State Correctional in April 2023. LSCF comprises a medium-security central unit with 310 beds and a minimum-security South Unit with 304 beds.
Key programs at LSCF aim to reduce recidivism among inmates, including food service supported by Larned State Hospital, with meals prepared at the hospital kitchen and served to inmates. Chaplaincy services provide religious opportunities, facilitated by a full-time chaplain, while reentry services offer programs like Thinking for a Change courses to support offenders in specific risk and need areas. Additionally, private industries offer inmate employment opportunities to foster pro-social skills and work habits in minimum-custody West Unit inmates.
LSCF maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
