The Madison Penal Farm is a detention center located at 1524 Westover Rd Jackson, TN which is operated locally by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Madison County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Jackson Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

In 1963, the Madison County Penal Farm was officially inaugurated, marking the beginning of its operational activities. Over the subsequent fifty years, the facility underwent three expansions to accommodate a growing inmate population and evolving correctional needs. As of 2019, the Madison County Penal Farm continues to function under the auspices of the Corrections Division, which is responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates within the Madison County Jail System.

The primary function of the Madison County Jail is to detain individuals as required by law. This includes those serving sentences for crimes they have been convicted of, as well as those awaiting trial, transferred to other county or municipal facilities, or transferred to the state prison system. The Madison County Sheriff's Office operates under the principle that convicted prisoners are sentenced to jail as punishment, not for punishment. In alignment with this philosophy, inmates are treated humanely and courteously, ensuring maximum security without unnecessary discomfort, regardless of personal prejudices or feelings.

The Madison County Penal Farm is divided into four cell blocks: one dedicated to female offenders and three designated for male offenders. The facility is staffed by a team comprising one full-time on-call specialist, one full-time nurse, and eleven certified prison guards, ensuring that the inmates' health and security needs are adequately met.

In addition to its custodial functions, the Madison County Penal Farm provides educational and religious programs for its inmates. These programs are designed to offer opportunities for personal development and rehabilitation, aiding in the inmates' reintegration into society upon release. The overarching goal of the Madison County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division is to protect and maintain the peace and security of the community by securely detaining those who have been legally incarcerated.
