Located at 9036 East M-36 in Whitmore Lake, MI, WCC carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. WCC, established in 2009, operates as a specialized institution primarily focusing on mental health services for male prisoners aged 18 and older, with exceptions for certain circumstances where individuals aged 17 and below are housed separately. The facility has a capacity for 468 prisoners and employs 396 staff members.

The Crisis Stabilization Program (CSP) at Woodland Center is a referral-based initiative for prisoners experiencing serious mental health crises. The program aims to diagnose, treat, and stabilize prisoners through individualized treatment plans. Different levels of care are provided, including CSP, Acute Care (AC), and Rehabilitative Treatment Services (RTS), with prisoners transitioning through these levels based on clinical needs. Additionally, the facility houses an infirmary with 23 beds, offering inpatient mental health and healthcare services, including dialysis.
WCC houses the Inpatient Mental Health and Crisis Stabilization Program for the Michigan Department of Corrections (MI DOC). The facility includes an infirmary and clinic providing medical services for all housed prisoners. There is one housing unit for Level I prisoners and a separate unit dedicated to Level II dialysis patients. General population prisoners at WCC contribute to various facility operations, including food service, maintenance, warehousing, and clerical duties.
Woodland Center offers an extensive range of programs aimed at addressing various aspects of mental health, substance abuse, skill-building, and rehabilitation. These programs include Phase I and Phase II Substance Abuse Education, Advanced Substance Abuse Treatment, Violence Prevention Program, Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention, and training in Blood-Borne Pathogens. Additionally, prisoners have access to a wide array of therapeutic and educational groups, such as Psychoeducational Group, Anger Management, Social Skills, Stress Management, and Coping Skills. Creative outlets are also provided through activities like Creative Arts, Music Listening, and Therapeutic Games. Other programs include Alcoholics Anonymous, Thinking for a Change, ACT Work Keys, and Pet Therapy.
