Located at 86032 County Hwy 61 in Willow River, MN, CIP-Willow River carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. CIP-Willow River offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
CIP-Willow River is a minimum security boot camp program initiated by the Legislature in 1992 to facilitate the early release of non-violent offenders. Phase 1 of the program spans six months and caters to up to 180 men convicted of non-violent drug and property offenses. It features an intensive regimen comprising education, critical thinking skill development, chemical dependency programming, and rigorous physical exercise. Subsequently, Phases 2 and 3 involve supervised release phases lasting about six months each, typically served within the community.
The educational, vocational, and restorative justice opportunities at CIP-Willow River are diverse and comprehensive. Participants undergo educational classes and chemical dependency treatment tailored to their assessments. Moreover, they actively engage with youth and community stakeholders through initiatives like the Choices and Change program, promoting restorative justice principles.
In addition to educational and restorative justice activities, participants have the chance to partake in various vocational learning opportunities. These include programs such as the Apiary Program, focusing on beekeeping skills, and Solar Panel Technology training. Furthermore, participants can access College and Career Prep programs, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge for future endeavors.
