The Montgomery Co Jail is a detention center located at 345 W 2nd St Dayton, OH which is operated locally by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Montgomery County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Dayton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The recreation staff coordinates recreational activities for eligible inmates, offering up to five hours of recreational time weekly. Activities like basketball, volleyball, and ping-pong are available during these periods. The recreation staff also manages library services within the jail, distributing reading materials, educational books, and legal manuals to housing units. Non-violent offenders serving sentences may qualify for the Day Reporting Program instead of incarceration. Participants report daily and engage in community service under sheriff's deputies' supervision. This program aims to teach work ethics and skills while serving the community.
The Inmate Work Program is integral to the jail's operations. Inmates perform various tasks such as laundry services, kitchen duty, commissary assistance, and maintaining facility cleanliness and sanitation. Expanded in 1993, it now includes work outside the jail like washing patrol cars, assisting with deliveries, and maintaining county facilities. This program serves to save the county money while providing meaningful activity for inmates.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.
Video visitation will be available in the lobby of the jail for use by family/friends of inmates incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail. Each inmate will be allowed to have two 30-minute visits a week (with only one visit per day). The cost of these visits in the jail lobby is at no cost to inmates and/or friends and family. Visitors utilizing this new service must register and schedule their visitation with the inmate a day in advance at smartinmate.com. If you do not have access to the internet or use of a computer, you can call and schedule a video visit at 727-349-1561.
