The inmates housed at Greene CI located at 2699 Hwy 903 in Maury, NC are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Greene Correctional Institution is a minimum security prison with the capacity to incarcerate 616 adult low-risk males located in Maury, North Carolina. FOr inmates whose risk profile has risen, the facility has a segregation unit that can hold 40 inmates which is reserved for offenders who become difficult to manage.

Greene's primary mission is to provide inmate labor for the following quotes: As many as 91 inmates work on Department of Transportation road squads in Greene, Lenoir, Pitt and Beaufort counties. Sixty-one inmates work on long-term labor contracts with local city, county, and state governmental agencies. As many as three positions are available for inmate assignment to work release jobs with private businesses. Twenty-five inmates work on the Inmate Construction Program and 82 work at Chase Enterprise Laundry. As many as 18 inmates perform janitorial and maintenance duties at Eastern and Maury correctional institutions. Another five inmates provide janitorial services at the Eastern Regional Office and 19 are assigned to assist Eastern Region Maintenance staff with prison maintenance. Nineteen orderly positions support chronic care patients.

Greene is also a medical support facility, with 96 beds identified for chronic care inmate housing needs.

As many as 167 inmates are assigned to work in food service, keeping the institution clean and/or performing maintenance to equipment, facilities and grounds.

Additionally, Greene Correctional Institution offers various rehabilitative programs that include Yokefellow Ministry, Think Smart, Community Volunteer, Tri-County Transition Program, Strive Transition Program, Home Leaves, Community Volunteer Leaves, Work Release, Independent Studies, Napoleon Hill, Character Education, Cognitive Behavior Intervention, library, and recreation. Currently, there are approximately 100 active community volunteers who offer their services in our various Rehabilitative/Religious services.

Lenoir Community College works with the facility to offer full-time and part-time classes for adult basic education and preparation for the General Education Development tests for as many as 30 inmates. Lenoir Community College also sponsors part-time General Education Development, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, Electrical Wiring, Computers Application with CRC and Keytrain and English as a Second Language.

Inmates can work jobs within the institution performing supportive roles in food services, custodial maintenance, landscaping, and general facility maintenance. A

Greene Correctional Institution has several programs available to help inmates with alcohol and substance abuse issues, these include Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous. Vocational courses are provided for inmates through a sponsorship with Lenoir Community College offering training in HVAC, computer applications, and electrical wiring. Additional education courses are offered and include adult basic education and the ability to earn a GED.

Covid Visitation Information

LIMITED VISITATION RESUMES OCT. 1, 2020

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice will resume limited visitation at all state prisons effective Oct. 1, 2020 with significant restrictions due to the pandemic. Visitation was suspended in all state prisons on March 16, 2020, with the exception of legal and pastoral visits, to help prevent the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Visitation is handled by appointment only. Regular visits may be scheduled for the following times:

Friday 9 a.m.-11 a.m. 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-11 a.m. 12 p.m.-2 p.m. 3 p.m.- 5 p.m.

DIRECTIONS - FROM RALEIGH: Take US 70 East to Goldsboro and take US 13 North to Snow Hill. Follow US 13 & Hwy 903 North approximately 3 miles north of Snow Hill toward Greenville. Follow Hwy 903 North and Greene Correctional Institution is located at 2699 Highway 903 North approximately ½ mile south of Maury. The Institution is adjacent to Eastern Correctional Institution and across the highway from the DOT Maintenance Yard.
