Established in 1980, the PCC is the Nevada Department of Corrections' (NDC) inaugural camp in Rural Nevada, pioneering wildland firefighting crews managed by the Nevada Division of Forestry for Lincoln County and the state. PCC's emergency crews have responded to various natural disasters, including floods in Carson City (1997) and Caliente (2003), and assisted in the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery (2003). Additionally, they were dispatched twice to California (Chico and Grass Valley) in 2008 and routinely aid in statewide fire emergencies.
PCC employs a diverse staff consisting of one Correctional Lieutenant, one Correctional Sergeant, one Senior Correctional Officer, 11 Correctional Officers, two Correctional Caseworkers, one Retail Storekeeper, and 11 Nevada Division of Forestry Staff Members. The camp accommodates 196 male inmates in dormitory living conditions, with capacity potentially rising to 238 during departmental exigencies.
In terms of programs, PCC collaborates with the Nevada Division of Forestry to train and deploy community project and wildland firefighting crews year-round. Inmates have the opportunity to obtain their GED or High School Diploma while accessing programs such as Anger Management and New Beginnings for personal development and rehabilitation.
Pioche Camp maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
