Located in Alvarado, TX, PDC operates as a private contractor with various government agency agreements providing state-minimum custody requirements. Programs are offered to all custody levels, including work release residents focused on reentry success. Onsite amenities include dietary, health, fitness, educational, religious, and recreational services. The Prairieland Detention, operated by US immigration since November 2016, features the first unit specifically designed for transgender individuals. The facility operates with advanced care guidelines tailored to the needs of transgender detainees. Each detainee at PDC receives an individualized detention plan covering various aspects such as searches, clothing options, hygiene practices, medical care, and housing assignments.
LaSalle, the managing entity of PDC, aims to transform lives through evidence-based and innovative programming solutions. From booking to re-entry, LaSalle provides a range of programs and services to securely process, house, treat, and reintegrate inmates into society. Alongside typical activities like outdoor recreation, telephone communications, and commissary services, inmates have opportunities for continuing education, rehabilitative programs, vocational skill development, and additional income-earning activities.
Programs at PDC are categorized into Accountability Planning, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family Reunification, Victim Awareness, and Workforce Development. Accountability Planning involves the development of individualized plans by a panel of advisors to ensure continuity of care for offenders during incarceration and upon release. CBT addresses emotional, psychological, and cognitive disorders through behavior modification techniques. Family Reunification focuses on strengthening family support networks, while Victim Awareness programs enhance offenders' understanding of the impact of their actions on the community. Workforce Development coordinates work release activities with educational and vocational training to equip offenders with marketable skills.
Specific programs at PDC include GED, literacy training, and vocational training in various fields such as carpentry, plumbing, welding, mechanical, electrical, and computer skills. Additionally, faith-based and secular substance abuse programs are offered, along with multi-denominational worship services, counseling sessions, Bible study groups, reading groups, and recreational activities like traveling sports teams and a bicycle repair program.

Detainees cannot receive incoming calls, but urgent messages can be left by calling the same number and providing the detainee's full name, alien registration number, along with the caller's contact information.
