WI DOC - John C. Burke Correctional Center - Inmate Handbook
John C. Burke Correctional Center (JBCC), a part of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System (WCCS), accommodates approximately 250 adult male inmates and is overseen by a central warden in Madison. Established in 1990 on the site of the former Minimum Security Bunkhouse, initially a Waupun Correctional Institution annex, JBCC transitioned to a female facility in 2000 and later reverted to housing male inmates in 2011. Staffed by 44 members, the facility offers various programs including education, work assignments, community service, and work release, acting as a transition point from secure to less secure incarceration. Inmates can participate in work release programs with local employers, vocational training, and educational pursuits, with additional programs tailored to individual needs and available community resources. JBCC's project crew engages in community service projects, fostering skill development and community integration. Pre-release planning aims to facilitate successful reintegration into society, providing personalized planning, support system connections, and post-release opportunities for employment and education. Inmates can also exchange electronic messages through the CorrLinks system, maintaining communication with friends and family within established guidelines.
Burke Correctional maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
