WI DOC - New Lisbon Correctional Institution - Inmate Handbook
The New Lisbon Correctional Institution (NLCI) began its operations in 2004 as a medium-security state prison, designed to accommodate 950 adult male inmates. Presently, it houses approximately 1,016 offenders and comprises two housing units, each containing 500 cells, along with a 50-bed segregation unit. Within NLCI, inmates have access to essential amenities such as a library, religious services, medical and dental treatment facilities, and educational opportunities, including adult basic education and GED testing for diploma attainment.
Rehabilitative initiatives at NLCI encompass domestic violence/conflict resolution counseling, pre-release programming, and a sex offender treatment program. Vocational training is provided in horticulture, with certification opportunities in commercial baking. Moreover, the institution facilitates correspondence courses to enable offenders to pursue post-secondary education. NLCI's participation in the Badger State Industries program offers inmates work assignments, including hydro-stripping operations, which involve repairing and remanufacturing signs for highway use. Additionally, inmates can engage in janitorial services, maintenance, and tutoring roles within the institution.
NLCI prioritizes the safety and security of the public, staff, and offenders, fostering a constructive environment that encourages accountability and positive decision-making. Emphasis is placed on goal-setting conducive to successful reentry into society, with a focus on rehabilitation and personal development. Construction of NLCI commenced in 2001 and was completed the following year. Situated on 100 acres in Juneau County, the facility comprises various buildings, including housing units, a health services unit, a school complex, a library, religious programming spaces, and administrative offices. NLCI offers a range of academic and vocational education, inmate work assignments, treatment programs, personal development initiatives, reentry modules, and restorative justice initiatives, aimed at facilitating offenders' successful reintegration into society.
NLCI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
