The Southwestern Regional Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 1300 Gaston Caperton Dr Holden, WV which is operated locally by the Boone Regional Authority and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates have been here for less than five years. Southwestern Regional Jail accepts inmates from the Boone County Sheriff's arrests and surrounding towns, Holden Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for West Virginia here.

The Southwestern Regional Jail serves the counties of Boone, Logan, McDowell, and Mingo. Perched atop one of the picturesque mountains of Southern West Virginia, this facility was the sixth of ten regional jails constructed in the state. It began receiving inmates on April 8, 1998 and features a podular design consisting of three pods, each housing approximately one hundred inmates. The jail has an upgradeable maximum capacity of five hundred inmates, accommodating both male and female detainees.

The Southwestern Regional Jail includes a separate computerized booking area, a state-of-the-art closed-circuit "Courtroom of the Future," a 24-hour medical unit, a full-time teacher, and a counseling staff. The facility is staffed by 81 uniformed correctional officers and approximately 25 non-uniformed personnel, ensuring comprehensive management and support for the inmate population.
