The Southwestern Regional Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 1300 Gaston Caperton Dr Holden, WV which is operated locally by the Boone Regional Authority and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates have been here for less than five years. Southwestern Regional Jail accepts inmates from the Boone County Sheriff's arrests and surrounding towns, Holden Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Southwestern Regional Jail sits high atop one of the picturesque mountains of Southern West Virginia. Located in Holden, West Virginia, this facility is the sixth of ten regional jails to be built in the State. The facility, which started receiving inmates on April 8, 1998, has a podular design, consisting of three pods housing approximately one hundred inmates each with an upgradeable maximum capacity of five hundred, for both male and female inmates. This regional jail serves a three-county area consisting of Boone, Logan, and Mingo counties. In addition, the facility contains a separate computerized booking area, state-of-the-art, closed-circuit “Courtroom of the Future,” a 24-hour medical unit, a full-time teacher, a counseling staff, and much more. This facility is staffed with 81 uniformed correctional officers and approximately 25 non-uniformed personnel.

Offender Banking

Family and friends of WV Division of Corrections inmates may deposit money to inmate trust fund accounts by the following methods:

The Accelerated Parole Program (Policy Directive 454.07) shall be made available to inmates serving a sentence with a parole eligibility date, except sentences of Life with Mercy and Habitual Life. However, this program shall not be available to any inmate to which one or more of the following may apply:

  1. Is serving a sentence for, or has a criminal conviction for, a felony crime of violence against a person.
  2. Is serving a sentence for, or has a felony conviction, involving the use, presentment, or brandishing of a firearm.
  3. Is serving a sentence, or has a felony conviction, for a crime where the victim was a minor child.
  4. Is serving a sentence, or has a felony conviction, for a crime where the crime resulted in the victim's death.
  5. Is serving a sentence for more than one (1) felony conviction for a controlled substance offense on which the inmate is serving a consecutive sentence.
  6. Is serving a sentence on an offense for which there is a mandatory notification period under WV Code Section 62-12-23.
  7. Is presently incarcerated due to parole revocation for a new felony conviction, to WV Code 62-12-19(h).
  8. Is presently incarcerated in another jurisdiction, with a consecutive/concurrent WVDOC sentence.

  • Visitors will be assigned a time slot. You will not be able to choose the time of your visit.
  • If you arrive late for your visit you will only receive the time remaining in your assigned time slot.

Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or submit a notarized statement from the parent or legal guardian authorizing the visit. Only non-incarcerated parents or legal guardians may authorize juvenile visitation. If not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian the visitor must be accompanied by an authorized adult visitor and must have a signed, notarized
