General Visitation Information

Coosa Valley Juvenile Detention Center - Visitation

Visitation hours

Monday thru Friday - 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm;

Saturdays and Sundays - 12:30 pm until 7:30 pm; and

Holidays - 10:00 am until 7:30 pm.

The Program Manager or Shift Supervisor must approve appointments lasting longer than one hour. After youth have been detained for a full 72 hours, they may receive 3 hours of visitation per week from Monday thru Sunday only from the persons approved by the courts. All visitors, 18 years or older, must present a picture ID and sign in on the visitors' log. Visitors not on the approved list must wait in their vehicles. We are not responsible for children left unattended.
Only parents/guardians, grandparents, siblings (10 years and younger) and one pastor may be placed on a youth's visitation list. Visitors that present a safety or security risk for the youth or the center may be removed from the list with the approval of the Administration.
Visitors that are drunk or disorderly will be asked to leave. If they refuse, the police will be called. Tobacco products are not permitted in visitation. Staff will search all packages taken into visitation. Purses and other personal belongings should be left in visitors' cars or placed in the locker next to the visitation room with the visitor holding the key. All outer clothing, such as coats, must be removed prior to entering the visitation room.
All youth must be strip-searched completely following each visitation. Youth may not wear shoes into visitation.
Attorneys may visit anytime, but must schedule their visits and use of the visitation rooms. Staff will check their ID and have them sign in and out on the list and indicate their purpose for visiting. Their visits do not count toward the regular weekly visits.
Visitation rooms are monitored from the main control room by visitation intercoms. Visitors will be instructed in how to use the intercoms and make sure they are working before being locked in the visitation room.
No outside drinks are allowed in visitations, for youth or the visitor. If a visitation is during Coosa Valley meal times, the youth will eat and drink a Coosa Valley prepared meal or snack.
