Whether a visit takes place in an open contact setting or through a glass partition with a phone is not a facility-wide policy that applies equally to every inmate. It is determined by the individual's custody level and housing assignment within the facility.

Inmates at lower custody levels or in general population units are more commonly eligible for contact visits where you sit across a table in the same room. Inmates in higher custody classifications, administrative segregation, protective custody, or those with specific disciplinary flags are more likely to be restricted to non-contact visits conducted through glass with communication via a telephone handset.

Because custody level is specific to each inmate and can change based on behavior, recent incidents, or housing reassignments, there is no way to know from the outside which format applies without asking the facility directly. Tulsa County Jail's inmate services or records department can confirm the visitation format for your boyfriend's specific housing unit and custody status.

If you are traveling from another state specifically to visit, making that call before you make any travel arrangements is essential. Showing up for a contact visit only to find out the visit will be non-contact, or that the visitation schedule has changed, is a frustrating outcome that a quick phone call can prevent entirely.
