The best thing you can do from the outside is make sure they have money available to spend. For food packages specifically, Minnesota DOC facilities that allow outside packages typically work with approved vendors. The approved vendor list varies by facility and is set by the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Contacting your loved one's facility directly and asking for their current approved vendor list is the most reliable way to find out what is available and who you can order from.

For clothing the same principle applies. Most Minnesota state facilities require clothing to be purchased through the commissary or through facility approved vendors rather than sent from home. Your loved one's case manager can confirm what the current policy is at their specific facility.
