Yes, your wife can call your cell phone from TDCJ, but there are a few steps you need to take to make sure everything is set up correctly.

First, you will need to set up an account with the prison’s phone provider. TDCJ uses a contracted phone system, and all inmate calls must go through that provider. Once your account is set up and funded if required, your wife can add your number to her approved call list.

After your number is approved, she will be able to call your cell phone directly, just like she would call any other number on her list.

If you are looking to reduce the cost of calls, that is where a service like InmateAid comes in. They provide you with a local number that your wife dials instead of your regular number. That local number then forwards the call to your cell phone. Because the call is treated as local instead of long distance, it can significantly reduce the cost per call.

So in simple terms:

  • Yes, she can call your cell phone
  • Yes, you need to set up an account with the prison phone provider
  • The system is similar to county jail in that you must be approved and set up first
  • A local number service can help lower the cost of those calls

If you share the exact TDCJ unit, you can get a better idea of how much you might save with a local number setup.
