Can you bring a car seat to jail visitation

I want to bring my baby to go see his dad on Saturday at Lew Sterrett in Dallas County are you allowed to bring a car seat in to the jail?

At Lew Sterrett Justice Center, visitation rules are strict about what you can bring inside, and items for children are limited.

While the rules clearly prohibit things like strollers and toys, they do not specifically spell out whether car seats are allowed. In practice, most jails do not allow bulky items like car seats into the visitation area due to security and space concerns.

What usually happens is:

  • You will need to leave the car seat in your vehicle
  • You may be required to carry the baby in or use your arms
  • Only minimal personal items are allowed inside

Because policies can be enforced differently depending on staff and the specific tower, the safest move is to call the facility ahead of your visit and confirm.

Plan for the likelihood that the car seat will not be permitted inside so you are not turned away or delayed at check-in.
