Inmate Phone Calls

Do I still need GTL after getting a local number?

I set up a number through inmate aid, do I have to go through GTL still? If so Do I put my number down or the number you guys gave us?

Yes, you still have to go through GTL. The discount phone service does not replace the prison phone company, it works with it to lower the cost.

Here is how to set it up correctly:

1. Set up your GTL account
Go to the GTL system and create your account as you normally would.

2. Use the number provided to you
When registering, use the local number you were given, not your personal phone number.
That is the number your inmate will call.

3. How it works together

  • Your inmate dials the local number
  • GTL treats it as a local call, which is cheaper
  • The call is forwarded to your real phone

Important:

  • If you use your personal number with GTL, you will be charged long distance rates
  • The savings only happen when you use the number provided to you

So the setup is:

  • GTL account is still required
  • Use the InmateAid number inside GTL
  • Your real phone just receives the forwarded call

Once that is done, you will start seeing the lower call rates right away.
