In the federal system the approved call list stays intact through transfers. It is tied to the inmate's register number rather than to a specific facility, so when they arrive at the new camp their existing list of approved numbers comes with them. You do not need to reapply or go through a new approval process on your end.
The only gap in calls after a transfer is the logistics of getting settled at the new facility. Once your inmate is assigned to a housing unit and has access to the phone system, they can call the numbers already on their list. Depending on how quickly intake and housing assignment moves at the new camp, that could be within a day or two of arrival or it might take up to a week.
As long as there is money in their account to cover the calls, everything should resume normally once they have phone access in their new unit.
This is also a good moment to make sure you have an InmateAid local number set up if you do not already. Federal calls run at six cents per minute for local numbers versus twenty-one cents per minute for long distance. On a camp where your inmate may be calling regularly, that difference adds up quickly. A local number through InmateAid costs five dollars a month and the savings on calls typically exceed that within the first week of use.
If you want to confirm the best number for the new camp specifically, email aid@inmateaid.com with the facility name and your current number and InmateAid will verify the setup before anything is charged.
