JPay accounts are tied to the inmate rather than the facility, which means in theory the account and any associated funds should follow them when they move within the same state system. Texas Department of Criminal Justice uses JPay across its units, so a transfer from Powledge to another TDCJ unit should not require setting up an entirely new account.

That said, transfers can create temporary gaps in the system. There is sometimes a lag between when an inmate arrives at a new unit and when their profile is fully active in that facility's version of the platform. During that window, deposits may not process correctly or messages may not deliver as expected.

The safest move is to contact JPay directly after any transfer and confirm that the account is linked to the inmate's current location. Have the inmate's TDCJ number ready when you call because that is the identifier JPay uses to locate accounts across the system. If anything looks off on your end, JPay's customer service can usually sort it out quickly once they pull up the account.

For trustee inmates who move between units regularly as part of a work assignment, getting into the habit of confirming JPay connectivity after each move is just smart practice. It takes a few minutes and eliminates the uncertainty of wondering whether your deposits are landing where they should.
