Does being sentenced to do federal time mean it'll be a long sentence?

My loved one is in holding facility he hasn't been sentenced yet but we know he's gonna be going to a federal institution does that automatically mean he will have a long sentence or do federal deal with short sentences also.

The federal system is run by the Department of Justice and houses offenders with federal convictions.

The federal system is run by the Department of Justice and houses offenders with federal convictions. These convictions range from issues relating to taxes, environmental laws broken, white collar business crimes, and many many non-violent crimes. The sentencing guidelines range from a couple months to life in prison. Don't let your imagination run away with you
