Missing calls from someone who contacts you every day without fail is unsettling, but a lockdown is the most common explanation and it has nothing to do with your fiancee personally.

Lockdowns happen for a variety of reasons, including fights, contraband searches, staffing shortages, or incidents on a particular unit. During a lockdown, phone access is typically cut off for everyone regardless of individual behavior. It is one of the most common reasons families suddenly stop hearing from an inmate who normally calls on a consistent schedule.

The only way to confirm whether the facility is on lockdown is to call and ask directly. Do not rely on the general information line or whoever answers first. Ask to speak with the captain, the case manager, or the unit secretary. These are the people most likely to give you an actual answer rather than a generic response.

If lockdown is not the reason and you still cannot get a clear answer, ask specifically about your fiancee's status and wellbeing. You are entitled to a welfare check response as a family member, and escalating to the captain or superintendent tends to produce results when lower-level staff are not being helpful.
