Call the facility directly and work your way up the chain. Start with the unit team secretary. They handle administrative functions for the unit and can often pull up basic status information quickly. If they cannot help or will not give you what you need, ask for the counselor. The counselor has more direct contact with inmates on a day to day basis and is usually your best source for a straightforward status update. If you still cannot get a clear answer, ask for the case manager.
One of those three will be able to tell you whether your inmate is still at that facility, whether they have been transferred, and whether there is anything on record that explains the silence. They are not going to give you detailed personal information, but they can confirm basic status and welfare.
A few things can cause a sudden communication gap that have nothing to do with anything serious. Lockdowns cut off phone and email access sometimes for days at a time. Transfers happen with little notice and inmates often cannot reach anyone during the move. Disciplinary sanctions can restrict phone and visitation privileges temporarily.
That said, trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, make the calls.
