There is no fixed timeline. Once an inmate is approved and on the list for a treatment program, the wait depends entirely on bed space availability in the treatment dorm at the facility where the program is offered. Maryland DOC treatment programs are in demand, and available spots are limited relative to the number of people who want them.
The wait can range from a few weeks to several months depending on how many people are ahead in the queue, whether there are openings at the inmate's current facility or whether a transfer is required to access the program, and how quickly the facility processes approvals.
The most effective thing an inmate can do is get on the list as early as possible and stay in regular contact with their case manager about their placement status. Being proactive and visible to the people making placement decisions tends to move things along faster than passive waiting. Keeping a clean conduct record in the meantime is also important, since disciplinary issues can remove someone from program eligibility entirely.
If the program requires a transfer to a different facility, the transfer wait adds another layer to the overall timeline.
