We estimate that it takes 2-3 business days to make it to the jail. Once there, the staff opens and reads each piece of mail and inspects it for contraband. Any delay that occurs at the facility is out of our control. We make no guarantees as to how long it will take as there are thousands of facilities and none of them do things the same way. Depending on the facility, you might be able to order commissary for your inmate. Most people send money through an inmate money transfer service like JPay or Western Union. Once the money hits the inmate's account, they can shop at the commissary for all sorts of items like snacks, workout clothing, sundries, personal hygiene and over-the-counter medicine. There are usually limits to the amount an inmate may spend in a given week or month. Either check with the facility or write us at Aid@InmateAid.com and we will do the research for you and let you know. If you go the route of adding money, be mindful that inmates will spend whatever you send them. You have to be certain that you are not sacrificing the household budget to put money on their books. The detention facilities feed, clothe and house the inmates to standards that will keep them comfortable for their sentence. The commissary is a privilege and a bit of a luxury.
