This is one of the most painful intersections of criminal justice and changing law. A 30-year federal sentence for marijuana, even with conspiracy attached, reflects how aggressively the federal government prosecuted drug offenses during certain periods, and the contrast with today's legal landscape is stark. On the legal question: federal legalization of marijuana would not automatically release anyone currently serving time for marijuana convictions. Laws are not typically retroactive in that way without specific legislation authorizing resentencing or clemency

The inmate will know when they are at mail call that they have a letter from you. It is a physical letter that is actually handed to the inmate.

It usually takes a few days before the inmates are given phone privileges. The Orientation must take place first before the inmate may make calls, receive visits and buy commissary. If you are also in the state of Texas, we can make the calls cheaper, check it out.

Yes, unless you are going to live in West Virginia, South Carolina and Mississippi. These states still enforce a lifetime ban on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, for people who commit drug-related felonies. Indiana had a lifetime ban but just changed its law to lift it, effective in 2020.

Probably not. Eleven cents is a good rate, but some go as low as 4-6 cents per minute - it depends on where you're talking about. IC Solutions has a rate calculator on their site and we'd have to run a check to see if there was any way to go lower. Without knowing the facility name, we're just guessing.

This is a Special Housing Unit also known as the SHU. Typically they are in segregation, outside of the general population for a variety of reasons - none of which are particularly good.

He will have to go back to Copiah County and face the judge that signed that warrant from three years ago. We don't know why he was cited and for what reason, but you can be certain that the judge isn't going to be happy to see him again after giving some leniency that went unappreciated
