The date is solid as long as nothing disrupts his good time credit between now and then. Good time release dates are calculated based on earned credits accumulated through clean conduct, and those credits can be taken back if an inmate picks up a disciplinary infraction. An incident report that results in a formal finding against him is the main thing that can push that date out.
The severity matters too. Minor infractions may result in a small loss of credits that shifts the date by days. More serious write-ups can cost significantly more. Either way, the date you have is the target and as long as he stays out of trouble and avoids any new incident reports, you should be planning for September 7.
There is no reason to expect anything to change at this point. Stay in contact, keep the communication going through letters and calls, and start thinking about what the first few weeks home are going to look like. The reentry adjustment is real and worth preparing for in advance.
