This is a fair question and you deserve an honest answer.
InmateAid previously offered single letters for $0.99. The reality of running that service was that the cost of materials, postage, and payment processing made every single letter transaction a losing proposition regardless of volume. Continuing to offer it would have meant either raising the price to a point that felt unfair or absorbing losses that were not sustainable.
The current letter service is offered in packages of 8 letters for $8. That structure allows InmateAid to keep the per letter cost low, maintain the quality of materials and delivery, and continue operating a service that genuinely helps families stay connected.
Even with the package structure the letter service operates more as a genuine service to families than as a profit center. The goal has always been to make staying connected as affordable and accessible as possible.
If 8 letters feels like more than you need right now consider this. Letters do not expire. You can use them over time as the need arises. For anyone with a loved one who has weeks or months remaining on their sentence 8 letters goes quickly. Most families find they use them faster than expected once they experience how much a physical letter means to someone inside.
