Will an inmate email me or send mail to my address?

If you put your home address on the information that you gave your card number will the inmate know to send it via email? And not the home address

In most cases, inmates do not have access to regular email or the internet, so they cannot choose to send you a message electronically just because you provided your email or entered payment information online.

If you include your home address when sending a letter, that is where the inmate will write back. Their response will come through standard postal mail, not email. They will use stamps and envelopes from their commissary account, or if they have no funds, the facility may provide basic materials for indigent inmates to send mail.

If you prefer not to share your home address, InmateAid offers a Response Mail service. With that option, your inmate writes back to the InmateAid address instead of your home. When the letter arrives, it is scanned and uploaded to your account, and you are notified by email so you can read it online. This adds a layer of privacy and convenience.

So the key point is:

  • Inmates do not switch to email based on your information
  • Standard replies go through the mail unless you use a service like Response Mail
  • You control where the reply is sent by the return address you provide

If privacy is a concern, using the Response Mail option is a good alternative.
