This is serious, and it can affect his release date, but it depends on how the escape is handled.

Walking away or escaping from a halfway house is still considered an escape from custody, even though it is a lower security setting.

What could happen:

If treated as a minor violation:

  • He could lose privileges or good time
  • He might still be released close to the original date

If treated seriously (which is common):

  • He could be charged with escape
  • His release date could be pushed back
  • He may be returned to a higher security facility
  • Additional time could be added to his sentence

About the court date (9/15):
That hearing will likely determine:

  • Whether new charges are filed
  • Whether time will be added
  • Whether his current release date (10/11) still stands

Important reality:
With less than a month left, courts sometimes take a strict view because:

  • He was close to finishing
  • Leaving early shows non-compliance

Bottom line
He might still be released near his original date if it is handled lightly, but there is a real chance his release will be delayed or additional time added. The court date will be the key moment that decides it.
