‘American Idol’ star Antonella Barba pleads guilty to drug charges - faces 10 years to life

The former contestant admits to delivering fentanyl

A former “American Idol” contestant who was busted in Virginia with nearly 2 pounds of fentanyl has copped to drug possession charges, according to court records.

Antonella Barba, 32, of Point Pleasant, NJ, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.

Barba — who reached the top 16 on the sixth season of “American Idol” — was one of several members of a drug ring when she was arrested in Norfolk, Va., while serving as a courier in October 2018, federal prosecutors said.

The aspiring singer was approached by an officer while parked in a rental car, which had a closed shoebox on a passenger seat, court documents said. The cop opened the box and discovered a “large quantity of a white, rock-like substance” later determined to be fentanyl.

She is set to be sentenced in November when she faces 10 years to life in prison. Prosecutors, however, have asked for a more lenient sentence, so long as Barba continues to cooperate with the investigation.
