Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown turns himself in at Broward jail after warrant for his arrest

January 23, 2020

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown turned himself into the Broward County Jail on Thursday night.

“He’s innocent of these charges. Hopefully, we’ll get bond tomorrow and he’ll be acquitted of all charges,” Brown’s attorney, Eric Schwartzreich, told reporters.

Hollywood police had issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest Wednesday night on charges of burglary with battery, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal mischief related to an incident with a moving van driver on Tuesday afternoon at Brown’s Hollywood home.

What began as an argument over $4,000 — the amount the 31-year-old Brown was supposed to pay the driver to release his goods, according to the arrest report — accelerated when it became a dispute over $860.

According to the report, the driver showed up at Brown’s Hollywood house on Tuesday to deliver Brown’s household goods from California.

The driver called police and reported a vandalism after he said Brown refused to pay the $4,000 and then threw a rock at the van as he drove away, police said. The rock caused a small dent and chipped the paint, an officer wrote.

The driver left, but then returned when the manager of his company told him that Brown would pay the $4,000 and an additional $860 for the damage and the driver’s time. When he returned, Brown paid the $4,000, but refused to pay the rest, according to the report.

The driver went back in the van to call his company and that’s when Brown “started another verbal argument,” police said.

“Brown stepped up into the cabin of the vehicle and started to physically grab and pull [the driver],” an officer wrote in the report.

Meanwhile, Glenn Holt, Brown’s trainer, told the driver to give him the keys so he could get Brown’s property. The driver refused. Holt then “entered the vehicle and grabbed the keys from the ignition,” police said. The driver tried to get the keys back and cut his hand in the process, according to the report.

Holt then used the keys to open the truck and that’s when Brown “and other unidentified friends” entered the truck and began removing boxes. The boxes, however, belonged to another client, police said.

“When [the driver] advised them the property they were removing belonged to another client, Brown and the other individuals started tossing the items back into the truck causing damage to some of the property,” an officer wrote in the report.

Hollywood police were called again. Police said that when officers arrived, Brown was sitting outside but then “retreated inside of his residence and shut the door.”

Police say the driver suffered injuries including scratches on his neck, shoulder and arm, a cut on his finger and a scrape on his stomach.

Holt, who police said refused to give an officer a statement, was arrested. Police issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest Wednesday.

Brown, who graduated from Miami Norland High, has made headlines several times in recent months. Earlier this month, police were called because of a disagreement Brown had with his ex-girlfriend, Chelsie Kyriss. Brown waved penis-shaped gummy candies at the responding officers.

Brown was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Oakland Raiders after a 2019 off-season, but was released before the regular season. He ran into more trouble after a former trainer filed a lawsuit alleging sexual assault. He’d been picked up by the New England Patriots but was then cut.

Brown lost an estimated $39 million after being released by the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots before the 2019 season was three games old.
