The Benton County IA Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 113 E 3rd St Vinton, IA which is operated locally by the Benton County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Benton County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Vinton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Inmate mail should be sent to Benton County Jail, 113 East 3rd Street, Vinton, Iowa 52349. Be aware photographs and greeting cards cannot be kept in an inmate’s cell. Once viewed these would be stored in the inmate’s personal property.

Work Release
All Work Release inmates must complete and submit a Work Release Agreement and have it APPROVED by the sheriff. {Download Work Release Agreement}

  • Monday thru Thursday 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday thru Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

ALL visitors must have with them a Photo ID
NO more than 3 visitors are allowed at one time
VISITORS under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their Legal Guardian
VISITS are for 20 minutes, NO MORE than 3-20 minute visits per week, Sunday thru Saturday

USE OF ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE DURING AN INMATE VISITATION IS PROHIBITED. VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF VISITATION PRIVILEGES FOR THE INMATE.
