The APPSC is a detention center located at 7340 LA-26 W Oberlin, LA which is operated locally by the Allen Parish County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Allen Parish County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Oberlin Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Allen Parish Jail has a rich history dating back to 1913 when it was initially established at the location now referred to as the "White House," which has since been retired. In 1966, a newer facility was constructed and attached to the rear of the Allen Parish Courthouse. This strategic design allowed for direct access from the jail to the courthouse via an entrance on the third floor, significantly enhancing security and minimizing risks during prisoner transfers.
Before this design, inmates housed at the old jail had to be escorted outside and walked to the courthouse, exposing them and deputies to potential risks. With the new facility, inmates had limited access to the outside, mainly restricted to the exercise yard, reducing the likelihood of escape attempts and ensuring a safer environment for both inmates and deputies.
The old jail, which accommodated 41 inmates, has since been retired and repurposed as storage for the courthouse and Police Jury. This transition reflects the Sheriff's vision to centralize prisoner housing within the parish, ultimately saving taxpayers' money by eliminating the need to send inmates to external facilities for housing. The culmination of this vision is the new facility located on Hwy 26, which is now fully operational.

Non-citizens cannot receive incoming calls. If you need to get in touch with a detainee to leave an urgent message, you must call (337) 639-4353 and leave the non-citizen's full name, alien registration number and your name and telephone number where you can be reached. The non-citizen will be given your message.
