Florence West is a minimum-custody private prison operating under contract with the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADCRR), managed by The GEO Group. This facility, established in September 1997, caters to a mixed population of 500 adult male DUI and non-violent general population inmates, all adjudicated by the State Court. Additionally, the facility provides custody and care to 250 adult males. Florence West offers a range of work programs, including offsite work details with 23 contracts and 2 Fire Crew Details (FF1 & II). Designed specifically for Return to Custody (RTC) and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) male inmates, Florence West recruits staff from the local community and engages local vendors wherever possible, contributing significantly to the local economy through salaries and procurement of goods and services. The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO), oversees a comprehensive scope of work, offering employability skills, parenting, substance abuse education and counseling, nutrition/diet education, GED classes, Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes, case management, individual/group counseling, stress management, facility work programs, and job placement services. The facility features a central recreation yard with all amenities situated around it, including multipurpose rooms, educational classrooms, a library, central dining facilities, a kitchen, and an administrative/visitation building. Notable programs at Florence West include the Wild Horse Program, Du Brooks Dairy, Hickman's Eggs, and RAD, with post-release employment opportunities available. Nearly 100% of the population is engaged in work and/or programs, with educational offerings such as ABE, TABE, GED, and Rio Salado/Distance Learning. Treatment programs focus on re-entry, cognitive restructuring, and support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), alongside life skills training to facilitate successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
