Lewis work crews are regularly dispatched within local and surrounding communities, including Phoenix and Tonopah, as well as within the Lewis Complex itself. Some crews are designated as Fire Crews, presumably tasked with firefighting and related emergency response duties.

Moreover, inmates have the option to pursue college-level correspondence courses at their own expense, with onsite education staff providing support and proctoring examinations.

Educators within the facility conduct thorough screenings to identify inmates' educational needs and determine the most suitable environment for program delivery, taking into account offender classification and security requirements. The implementation of the Inmate Program Plan (IPP) process ensures the creation of individualized schedules for inmates, guaranteeing access to relevant programs, including education and library services, on a daily basis.
