Located at 2500 E Van Buren St in Phoenix, AZ, ADCRR Phoenix-Aspen carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. ADCRR Phoenix-Aspen offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
The ADCRR Phoenix-Aspen Unit within the prison complex stands out within the department for its unique setup. Situated on the Arizona State Hospital grounds and leased through the Department of Health Services, four units—Alhambra, Baker, and Flamenco—cater to specific inmate populations and mental health needs.
With a capacity of around 1,042 inmates spread across seven housing units with varying security levels, ADCRRPhoenix-Aspen employs a score classification system to determine custody and security level placement, ranging from 1 to 5 to indicate risk or need.
As a modern, medium to high-security facility, ADCRR-Phoenix comprises three primary areas: a reception center, mental health beds, and transitional care units. Skilled inmates are responsible for maintenance, kitchen work, yard duties, and cleaning tasks.
The Reception Center acts as the initial processing point for male inmates, excluding those on Death Row or serving life sentences, undergoing medical and psychiatric assessments, classification, and transportation.
ASPC-Phoenix Aspen offers a range of programs, including work crews, educational opportunities such as mandatory literacy, special education, GED, high school diploma, and associate degree programs, as well as treatment options like psychoeducation groups, art therapy, and a Recovery Support Specialist program.
ADCRR Phoenix-Aspen maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Regular visitation periods will be in four-hour blocks each weekend, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Frequencies for regular visitation and food visitation will be based on the inmate’s phase level as outlined in this section. Holiday visits are in addition to established visitation schedules.
