Big Horn Co Jail is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.
All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for County - medium facility.

The Big Horn Co Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 420 C St Basin, WY which is operated locally by the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Big Horn County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Basin Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Wyoming here.
The Big Horn County Detention Center was opened in 2001. The Jail can accommodate 86 inmates at any given time. The Detention Center houses not only Big Horn County inmates, but we hold inmates for the US Marshals of Montana, US Marshals of Wyoming, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Federal inmates are held on contract for a fee that is negotiated with each agency.
The Detention Center employees 12 full time POST certified Deputies. The Housing Control section has 4 full time employees. The kitchen staff of 2 full time cooks that are responsible for the preparation of 3 well-balanced meals per day. These cooks serve an average of 5,000 meals per month.
The Jail has a contract with Midway Clinic of Basin to provide a nurse on-site and a physician visit on site.

Inmate Funds - Money may be brought to the jail for inmates. The jail prefers you to bring the funds in a money order, but we will accept cash. No checks will be accepted.
You may also add funds to an inmate’s account via the Internet. You can log on to www.govpaynow.com and follow the instructions for Big Horn County Detention Center in Basin, WY. Our site code # is 5500. You will need to have the inmates ID number and you will get that information from the inmate. The Detention Deputies will not give out any personal information over the telephone
Mail - To prevent delay of your letters or notes to Big Horn County Detention Center Inmates, please follow the following guidelines;
The following are NOT ALLOWED and the mail will be returned to you:
1. No personal checks, only money orders
2. No books or magazines without prior approval from the Capt. or Lt
3. No newspaper clippings.
4. Cards will be returned if they have any of the following items on them:
a. Anything glued, metal, plastic, cloth, strings, parchment paper,
Flowers, glitter, or anything taped to the card,
5. No nude or partial nude photos
6. Anything gang related
7. Lipstick or perfume on the letter or envelope
8. Stamps, blank paper and envelopes are not allowed
9. Anything that threatens or is detrimental to the security, good order or discipline of this facility.
10. Mail shall not contain correspondence for any other inmate than the one it is addressed to.
11. No inmate mail will be received from another detention center. No inmate to inmate mail.
12. Photos are limited to 5.
13. Internet print outs, jokes, etc. are limited to no more than 10 pages.
14. Stickers and inkpad stamps, are not allowed on any letter or card
15. No small pamphlets, no marker, high lighter, or crayon on any letter or card.
If any inmate mail sent to the Big Horn County Detention Center is in violation of the above rules, all contents of the mail will be returned to the sender.
All inmate mail must have the full return address of the sender and the inmate’s name. If mail does not include the return address, the mail cannot be returned to the sender.

ALL VISITORS MUST CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DETENTION CENTER 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. IF YOU DO NOT CALL 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME AND VISIT.
ONLY TWO (2) ADULT VISITORS ALLOWED PER INMATE PER VISIT.
ALL VISITORS MUST BE AT THE JAIL AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE SCHEDULED VISITATION TIME.
IF MORE THAT SIX VISITORS SHOW UP FOR VISITATION, VISITS WILL BE CUT TO 15 MINUTES PER POD.
IF YOU VISITED AN INMATE ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VISIT ON SATURDAYS.
