The Carter County MO Jail is a medium-security detention center located at Courthouse Square
105 Main St
PO Box 817 Van Buren, MO which is operated locally by the Carter County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Carter County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Van Buren Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Calling cards must be purchased at the jail in $15 increments.

Covid Visitation Information

As of March 18, 2020, registration and visitation rules have changed to protect inmates at Carter County MO Jail and their loved ones during the COVID-19 outbreak. At this time, there are no in-person visits for family and friends due to the COVID-19 situation. Video visitation is available; details can be found below or call 573-323-4510.
