Located at 16756 Chino-Corona Rd PO Box 6000 in Corona, CA, CIW carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. CIW offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The CIW has a primary mission of providing a secure environment for primarily Level I/III female offenders while addressing their specific needs through quality healthcare and tailored institution programs. CIW offers a range of specialized programs including academic and vocational training, pre-release and substance abuse programs, pre-forestry and camp training, an arts in corrections program, and various self-help groups and community projects.

CIW accommodates female inmates across all custody levels and caters to those with special needs such as pregnancy, psychiatric care, methadone treatment, and medical conditions like HIV infection. Additionally, CIW serves as a hub for selecting and training female firefighters for conservation camp placement and provides higher security housing for female inmates in Administrative Segregation.

The facility offers outpatient and inpatient mental health services, including a licensed Psychiatric Inpatient Program for patients with serious mental disorders who require intensive treatment. CIW is accredited by The Joint Commission for Ambulatory Care, Behavioral Health Care, and Nursing Care Center Programs.

Historically, CIW was California's sole prison for female felons until 1987. Originally named "Frontera," reflecting a new beginning for its inmates, the facility's campus-like design was in line with the progressive rehabilitation concepts of the 1950s.

Inmate Locator

CIW maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
