Champaign Co Jail is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.
All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for County - medium facility.

The Champaign County IL Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 204 E Main St Urbana, IL which is operated locally by the Champaign County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Champaign County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Urbana Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Corrections Division consists of 2 facilities - the Satellite Jail on Lierman Ave in Urbana and the Downtown Jail across from the Champaign County Courthouse on Main St. in Urbana. The division employs 50 officers, 8 Sergeants, 3 Lieutenants and 1 Captain. There are 6 full-time and 6 part-time Master Controllers who help in maintaining security and communications in the Correctional Centers. There are 3 support staff to assist in clerical duties and coordinating inmate programs. Outside contractors provide meal preparation, medical and mental health services. Meal preparation is supervised by 1 full-time and 2 part-time managers. Medical services consist of 1 part-time doctor, 1 full-time registered nurse, 2 full-time LPN’s, 1 part-time LPN and 2 on-call registered nurses. Mental health services are provided by 1 part-time psychiatrist, 1 full-time mental health professional, 2 part-time mental health professionals and 2 on-call mental health professionals.
The jail processes between 500-600 intakes per month. Daily, 20-25 inmates are transported to court hearings that range from the first arraignment appearance to sentencing. On average staff transport inmates to 4 medical appointments per week and 5-25 inmates are transported to the Illinois Department of Corrections. The division also monitors an average of 31 Electronic Home Detention (EHD) inmates daily. Those on EHD live in the community, but wear an ankle bracelet which utilizes GPS technology and is monitored by correctional staff.

As of March 18, 2020, registration and visitation rules have changed to protect inmates at Champaign County IL Jail and their loved ones during the COVID-19 outbreak. At this time, there are no in-person visits for family and friends due to the COVID-19 situation. Video visitation is available; details can be found below or call 217-384-1243.
Registration
We understand how important it is for persons confined at the facility to maintain contact with family and friends during their stay. Most Inmates are allowed two twenty minutes of visits each week.
Champaign County Sheriff's Office Video Visitation Rules - Please read all of the rules completely prior to moving forward. Not knowing the rules will not be accepted as an excuse for not following them. Disobeying any rule may result in you being banned from visiting detainees or criminal charges being pursued when applicable.
Video visitation will be held 7 days a week.
Each inmate is allowed one 20 minute visit per day.
A Supervisor can deny, change or cancel a visit at any time at their discretion.
The visitation schedule may be cancelled or altered on county appointed holidays or for safety/security reasons.
All visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
Any inappropriate activity that will jeopardize the good order, safety and security of the Champaign County Correctional Center will result in termination of your session.
Visits must be scheduled 24 hours prior to the appointment. Visits are able to be scheduled up to 7 days in advance. Walk-in video visits will be accepted provided there are available time slots and open video visitation booths.
Friends and Family video visitation booths are provided at the satellite jail and no more than 1 adult and 1 child will be allowed in the booth at one time. From these booths, you can visit inmates who are housed at either the satellite or downtown jail. Do not engage in activity that disturbs the other visits in progress.
If you use the visitor booths at the Satellite Jail it is free of charge.
Remote visits from your home will cost $10 and to do so you will need to have at least $10.00 in your ICSolutions prepaid account. If you need to set up an account or add funds, please go to https://securustech.net or call 866-558-2323.
The visit charge will be applied to your prepaid account as soon as your visit is scheduled.
If your visit is cancelled by the facility for a rule violation, your money will not be refunded.
Remote visitors should test their connection prior to scheduling a visit. Please go to www.icsolutions.com for instructions.
If you do not show for a remote visit no refund will be issued.
Remote visitors should connect 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit to check-in.
If you attempt to connect after the scheduled visit start time you will not be able to visit.
Persons named in an order of protection or no-contact order cannot visit the inmate listed on the order of protection.
After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated.
Appropriate dress is required at all times. This applies to remote and Satellite Jail visitors.
