CO DOC - Colorado State Penitentiary - (CSP) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 719-269-5120

The inmates housed at Colorado State Penitentiary located at 50 Evans Rd in Canon City, CO are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Colorado State Penitentiary is one of the facilities that make up the East Canon Complex (aligned with the Arrowhead Correctional Center, Four Mile Correctional Center, Skyline Correctional Center and the Centennial Correctional Facility) and can house about 750 adult male inmates who are mostly closed custody (maximum security). This facility uses incentive programs to modify inmate behavior. This facility offers substance abuse treatment for offenders with drug and alcohol dependencies. Some of the educational opportunities offered by this facility include the ability to earn an adult basic education, and GED. This facility also encourages behavioral modification through a program called thinking for a change.

Inmate Locator

CO DOC - Colorado State Penitentiary - (CSP) is a facility in the Colorado Department of Corrections. The DOC publishes the names of their current inmates and identifies which of their locations the inmate is being held. Your search should start with the first DOC locator to see if your loved one is there. Begin with the first three letters of the offender's first and last name, it does not have to be spelled exactly.

The second box is the InmateAid Inmate Search. This database of inmates is user-generated content for the purpose of accessing and utilizing any or all of the InmateAid services. If you need our assistance creating your own inmate profile to keep in touch, email us at aid@inmateaid.com and we will assist you in locating your inmate.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.

Covid Visitation Information

ALERT: COVID-19 SUSPENSION OF VISITATION
Given the risks associated with the spread of COVID-19, the Colorado Department of Corrections has begun to modify operations at our facilities.

At this time, in order to best protect CDOC facilities, effective immediately the Department of Corrections will suspend all visiting in our facilities. DOC understands that this will greatly impact the inmate population, but have made the difficult decision that the risk of a visitor potentially bringing COVID-19 into a facility is something that must be prevented to the extent possible. CDOC has implemented video visiting in all facilities (please see the section on Implementation of Video Visiting further down the page) and is providing all offenders in our custody one free 5-minute phone call per week in order to assist offenders in staying connected to those they care about. Legal visits will still occur but will be non-contact visits.

Please see the full announcement regarding our modified operations at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdoc/news/3-11-2020-operational-changes-colorado-department-corrections-facilities-prevention-covid-19. Additional information regarding the department's response to COVID-19 may be found at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdoc/covid-19-faq-and-updates.
