Denver County Van Cise-Simonet Detention is for County Jail offenders sentenced up to twenty four months.

The Denver County Van Cise-Simonet Detention is a detention center located at 490 West Colfax Ave Denver, CO which is operated locally by the Denver County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Denver County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Denver Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center is the prisoner intake center for the City and County of Denver. Prisoners are processed into the system, booked, fingerprinted, and temporarily housed until such a time that they are able to make bond, or have been given an advisement by the court.
Depending on the outcome of their court appearance, prisoners are either released from the Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center or sent to the Denver County Jail to serve out their sentence. Meals, phone calls, programs, showers and video visitation are all done within the housing unit.

How will you be notified of your visit:

  • Online request submissions: If you submit a request online, your confirmation will be sent via email, if your request has been approved. This is not the same as the notification you receive for submitting the request form. Please check your spam or junk folder for your confirmation email.
  • For requests submitted with only a phone number contact: If you drop off your visit request form at either facility, or fax your request to 'Visit Reservations', and you only include your phone number you will be called with your confirmation. Phone calls for your confirmation will be made on Wednesday or Thursday of the scheduled visit week for the Denver County Jail or, 1 to 3 days prior to the scheduled visit for the Downtown Detention Center, if your request has been approved.
  • For requests submitted with an email address contact: If you drop off your visit request form at either facility, or fax your request to 'Visit Reservations', and you include your email address your confirmation will be sent via email, if your request has been approved.

If you have not received a phone call or email confirmation, your visit has not been approved.

Reasons for a visit not receiving approval:

  • Missing information: Your form is missing legal name, driver's license # (as well as the state of issue, if not Colorado), date of birth or contact name and number (or email). if minor visitors are to be included on the visit, their legal name and date of birth must be included.
  • Invalid dates: You submitted your form too soon or too late. Visits are scheduled for the following week with Monday being the deadline for requests. For example, visits requested on Tuesday are not for the upcoming week/weekend, but the week/weekend thereafter. This applies to all forms of requests, whether in the lobby, by fax, email, phone or online. Please refer to our inmate search tool for inmate location and refer to the days/times indicated on our website for their location.
  • Invalid times: Visit days and times vary between facilities. Please refer to our inmate search tool for inmate location and refer to the days/times indicates on our website for their location.
  • Inmate's visits are full: The inmate already has the allotted reservation(s) at the time your request was processed.
  • Session times are full: There are only a select number of slots available for each session. Once the session is full, we are not able to schedule any more visits for that session.
  • Inmate has a court or other appointment on the day requested.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Do not send more than one request per week. We only schedule one week at a time.
  • When completing the request form, indicate three options for each visit. If the time requested is full or invalid, or the inmate is no longer in our custody, you will notbe contacted.
  • Downtown Detention Center & Denver County's Main Jail: Arrive and check in 30 minutes prior to your scheduled visit. All visitors are required to show a valid government issued ID at the time of check-in. Visitors from outside of the U.S.A. must present a passport. Visas are not acceptable, but consulate IDs are.
  • Denver County Jail Community Corrections: Arrive and check in 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit. All visitors are required to show a valid government issued ID at the time of check-in. Visitors from outside of the U.S.A. must present a passport. Visas are not acceptable, but consulate IDs are.
  • Visit requests are only a request. In no way is it to be considered a guaranteed approval of the visit. If you are not contacted by phone or email, your visit is notapproved. If you scheduled with the reservationist, you will not get a confirmation call.
  • Do not leave requested date/time area on the form blank. If you have an open schedule, please indicate the days you are open. However, if you indicate your schedule is open and you are not able to attend the reserved visit session, you will not be rescheduled.
  • If you are unable to attend an appointment, it will be a missed visit and still count toward the inmate's allotted visits for the week.
  • Downtown Detention Center and Denver County Main Jail: Inmates are allowed two visits per week. (Either 2 single or 1 family and 1 single). Inmates are not allowed to have both visits on the same day.
  • Denver County Jail Community Correction/Work Release (Bldgs 19 & 24): Inmates are allowed one visit per week.
  • A family visit is deemed as any visit with two (2) or more visitors. A maximum of three visitors are allowed (including infants and children).
