The El Paso Co Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 2739 E Las Vegas St Colorado Springs, CO which is operated locally by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. El Paso County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Colorado Springs Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Colorado here.

The El Paso County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) serves as the primary facility for housing individuals arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges by all law enforcement agencies within El Paso County. Inmates at CJC may be awaiting trial or are sentenced to the El Paso County Jail or Department of Corrections. With an average stay of 27 days, over half the population faces felony charges. Furthermore, CJC operates as a contract holding facility for various state and federal agencies, including Colorado State Parole, Military Installations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Marshal’s Office.

The Detention Bureau is structured into three components: Security, Operations, and Compliance. The Security Division manages the daily supervision and housing of over 1500 inmates, alongside detention projects. Operations Division includes Intake and Inmate Services, responsible for intake and release procedures, classification screening, court file maintenance, and warrant processing, and Court Services, which ensures safe transport to and from court. The Detention Compliance Section oversees standards, compliance, facility management, and offender management, including maintaining accreditation and overseeing alternative sentencing programs such as Work Release and Reintegration and Recovery.

The Inmate Programs Section provides a wide array of educational, religious, and therapy-oriented programs, available to most inmates upon request at no charge. These programs aim to facilitate personal growth and rehabilitation, with offerings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Anger Management, GED Preparation, Music Therapy, Yoga, and Religious Programs. The involvement of over 100 volunteers and a dedicated Chaplain’s Corps significantly contributes to the success of these programs, providing spiritual and emotional support to inmates. Additionally, the Programs Section oversees inmate mail, religious diets, library services, and court-ordered compliance, with two law libraries available for inmates seeking legal resources.

Through these comprehensive efforts, CJC strives to create an environment conducive to rehabilitation and positive change, ultimately promoting successful reintegration into society for incarcerated individuals.
